- I was disappointed to read your item about the latest fad
- for Davy Crockett-style raccoon caps (BUSINESS, Jan. 23). The
- more people find out about how furs are obtained from animals,
- the more disgusted they become. Let's not revive fashions that
- cause animals to suffer. I believe we should make this a kinder
- and gentler nation for them too.

- "Head for the hills!" you warn raccoons. But the trappers
- are already there, waiting with horrible steel-jaw leg-hold
- traps. There is no hope for the animals except in man's
- conscience, where there should be compassion and respect.
