  3.     I was disappointed to read your item about the latest fad
  4. for Davy Crockett-style raccoon caps (BUSINESS, Jan. 23). The
  5. more people find out about how furs are obtained from animals,
  6. the more disgusted they become. Let's not revive fashions that
  7. cause animals to suffer. I believe we should make this a kinder
  8. and gentler nation for them too.

  12.     "Head for the hills!" you warn raccoons. But the trappers
  13. are already there, waiting with horrible steel-jaw leg-hold
  14. traps. There is no hope for the animals except in man's
  15. conscience, where there should be compassion and respect.
